Holiday and special hours: keep customers informed before you close

A schedule change is only useful to customers if they see it before travelling. Review the notice when normal hours return.

A schedule change is only useful to customers if they see it before travelling. Use this notice template and channel checklist to publish the right dates and hours. Use the practical tool below with your own confirmed business information, then choose one action the team can complete and check.

Which part of the schedule update needs attention?

Quick guide

Choose what you are checking.

Three checks before making a change

1Which hours are changing?

Write down the exact dates, opening times, and return to the regular schedule before editing any page. Distinguish a full closure from reduced hours. An appointment-only day may also need different wording from a normal walk-in day.

One approved schedule should guide every update. If a staff member is still checking the plan, do not publish their estimate as a confirmed opening time. The person answering messages needs the same information as the person updating the listing.

2What can you copy into a notice?

Schedule update for [business name]

On [date], we will be [closed / open from time to time]. Our regular schedule resumes on [date]. For questions about [appointments / collections / orders], contact [confirmed channel] during [actual response hours].

Place to update Responsible person Confirmed correct?
Google listing Assign a person Date checked
Facebook information and notice Assign a person Date checked
Website and booking information Assign a person Date checked
Storefront and staff reply Assign a person Date checked

Use the current Google profile editing guidance for platform changes. An announcement post is useful, but customers may read the hours field without seeing that post.

3What should happen after the change?

Set the follow-up date when you publish the notice. Check that temporary wording has not become the permanent answer. Keep a copy of the approved notice so staff can answer questions about what was communicated.

Illustrative exampleNot a client audit

A bakery with one shorter day

A bakery opens only in the morning on one date. The owner publishes the exact morning hours, updates the relevant public information, and tells the person handling messages when normal service resumes. “Holiday schedule” alone would leave all three details unanswered.

How can you put this into practice?

Use confirmed information and keep a short record of the change and its follow-up.

  1. Confirm dates and actual hours.

Confirm affected dates, exact opening times, and when normal hours resume; record any appointment or collection exceptions.

  2. Update each customer-facing channel.

Use one approved schedule for the listing, page, website, physical notice, and person answering customer questions.

  3. Review the notice when normal hours return.

Set a reminder to inspect the information after the temporary schedule ends and correct any expired notices still visible.

What is your next step?

Are your public opening hours consistent?

Start with a free check of one business location. We will review the publicly visible listing details, identify up to three priorities, and explain what you can act on yourself. If the basics are accurate, we will say so.

Request a free listing check

On the contact form, choose “Not sure yet — tell me what to fix first.” Share the business name, area, and issue when we get in touch.

The free check covers

  • Confirmed dates and hours
  • Public listing and notice consistency
  • A practical follow-up action

Frequently asked questions

Should I announce a closure if it is only one day?

If customers could otherwise expect you to be available, a clear dated notice is useful. Base the wording on your actual schedule, not an assumption about what every business does.

Can one post replace updating the hours field?

Treat them as separate checks. A customer may see the listing or page information without opening the announcement, so inspect both views after making changes.
